welcome to Selwyn & Cassie's new home in Norfolk

Well, we're here!  This is a brief site to let you know about our new territory.  To find out more about the parishes and the churches, visit the website for the Wensum Group of Churches.

where?

The Wensum Group is a benefice of five parishes in eight villages with nine churches (two of which are redundant), a few miles north-west of Norwich.  We live  in Weston Longville; follow this link to see where the village is.

when?

We moved in on April Fool’s Day 2005, Selwyn was licensed by the Bishop of Norfolk, Bishop Graham James, at Weston Longville church as Priest-in-Charge of the Wensum Group on Friday 13th May.  Click on the thumbnail below to read the article in the Eastern Daily Press (our Norfolk local paper).

why?

Our work at St Mary's Beddington, in South London, has been framed by various large financial responsibilities:

* the repayment of a loan made by the Diocese of Southwark in the mid 1990s (£100,000)

* the rehanging of our ten bells in a new frame and work on the tower (£70,000)

* the rewiring and lighting of the church, inside and out (around £30,000)

These tasks have now been accomplished, due to the hard work, prayer and dedication of the congregation, and the community is now ready to move on in its mission.  It was clear to us that we had a choice: either to leave at this point, handing over the reins to a new incumbent to take on these new responsibilities, or to commit to at least a further five years here.  We spent a great deal of 2004 considering this, and when Selwyn was offered the post in Norfolk, we felt it was absolutely the right place for us to go next.  We were very sad to leave our friends in London, especially the St Mary's community and our colleagues in Chimes Musical Theatre.  However, we're very excited about all the new possibilities, and looking forward to establishing new patterns in our worship, music, business and friendships.

And, of course, the Rectory is a large place - we hope to see you there!
